Minimizing the using L1 in L2 class

Hi people,

All L2 learners want to study optimally inside and outside class in order to boost their achievement in mastering the language. But on the other side, some of them are too easy to give up when they face a problem in transmitting their ideas in L2 and directly use L1 to complete the mission instead of using the target language.
As a matter of fact, this action will halt the process of understanding the L2 because the learners put their mindset back to their mother language.
It's really necessary to keep working on using L2 in delivering the ideas, and learners still can try to explain their points by paraphrasing or expressing the same idea with different sentences.
Only by doing this way, learners can help them self to be able to reach their point, which is mastering the target language.

All the best,

Hi Mr. Dahlan,

Still remember me?
It's good to see that friends at badiklat, esp. pusbasa, are now utilizing blogs.

Well, keep struggling.

Hello ! I found not only students have a problem of using L2 during their daily activities in order to improve English skills. How about the communication among teachers in teacher's room? Let us go (consistently) with our old rule, "to use only L2, among students, among teachers and between students and teachers". I still remember, teachers and students who initiated a "fining box" for their respective class. Perhaps only Rp 1000.- for each mistaken, but teachers are included at the "game", and the box will be opened at the end of the course! I do not know what is in English, but in Bahasa Indonesia we say: Guru kencing berdiri, murid kencing berlari" .... That simple old rule WAS WORK at the time !

The idea is simple, right? The more you use L2, the better you are with it...

Hello all visiters, thanks for coming. I agree that in forcing the L2 to be used at all time, both learners and instructurs should apply the L2 and to be consistent with it. It's a team work. And to CPT. Krisna, sir, when we are discussing "L2", it doesn't mean that it's only about English because L2 means all languages which is not our mother language (L1) including French, Germany, and so on.
